Are you afraid of the dark? – witches debunked

“Double double toil and trouble fire burn and cauldron bubble…”

Before long comes that time of the year again, when children dress as ghouls and creatures of the night, in search of confectionary delights and general mischief. The time of the year, we are lead to believe centres around the undead and by association the dark and evil forces that exist. Witches in particular are regularly featured on Halloween as wart faced, long nailed, broom flying women with the sole purpose of inflicting pain and suffering.

Witch craft has long been associated with evil and the macabre, but thanks to shows like ‘Charmed’ and ‘Supernatural’, the idea of white witches have been promoted more frequently over the years and altered our perceptions of the craft.

“White Witchcraft: Practised to provide good intentions to the people around you”

Wicca the so called ‘nature religion’, is followed by The Wiccans who worship the “Earth Mother”, the sun, the moon, and stars. Witches do not however despite media representations believe in Satan. The significance of Halloween in their theology however is ‘Samhain’, which is pronounced “SOW-EEN.” It is believed that on that night, the barrier between this world and the next, known as the astral plane, becomes very thin. It is believed that this allows spirits of departed ones to travel freely back and forth between the earth and the spirit realm. Thus, Halloween is the highest day in Wiccan witchcraft.

“A spell is something which witches and wizards use to attain, protect, or produce something.”

As you would expect in line with all the movies and television shows, White Witches practice magic in such a fashion you would think it were taken straight out of the pages of a Harry Potter novel. Talismans, herbs, spells, chants and the aid of the full moon are frequented in the practice of Wicca. Love spells in particular are hugely popular & in the spirit of exploration and the power of magic we here at, FTP thought we would share a few of our favourite ones. Including one I’d like to use myself on that one annoying person and we ALL have one of those.

Kissing Spell

Take a red color lipstick and draw a lip print on a piece of white paper

Then take a red candle and burn the paper while chanting the words:

“Kiss me when we meet, kiss me {mention persons full name} greet me with your lips, and say you missed me. But most of all

kiss me.”

Don’t forget to visualise the person you want to kiss you and conjure love.

Binding Someone Annoying…

Take a piece of paper and write the name of the person that is to be bound on a 3″x3″ piece of paper, using a black ink pen or a pencil.

While you do this visualize the face of the person on your mind.

When you have written the name cross it with an inverted pentacle (5 pointed star within a circle).

Fold the paper twice and take a rubber band and tie the paper with it.

Raise it to your temple and chant three times the following:

“To be protected from you, this magic charm I will do, with this words i bind thee,For you to let me be, to be protected from your harm, I now seal this charm”.

Now place the paper on your right shoe and slam your foot on the ground nine times (doesn’t have to be so loud that everyone hears it).

As you slam it the ninth time say… “So make It be”

It’s fair to say that during my investigation of White Witches I faced much resistance as far as securing an interview was concerned. Now of course many plain old didn’t reply but in the few instances that did; they expressed their need for privacy, their wish to remain anonymous or fear of being ostracised albeit safely within the confines of the present day.

All of which reminded me that Wicca, Paganism or whatever your theological ideology may be; all falls into the category of a belief system and/or religion that has the right to be respected just like any other. This year when Halloween rolls round and I reflect on my short lived journey into the world of White Witches I can honestly say that my mind has been opened. My perceptions have been altered and more importantly I feel fully capable of casting a spell on anyone that crosses me… remember that!

– Blessed be –
